I love this book!
By A Customer
I have read this book several times since I got it and it is an amazing conclusion to the Lily series! I was, however, slightly dissatisfied with the ending. It doesn't exactly say if Lily has found her "thing" or talent. It just says that she'll clear it up with God. So, I wish it was a bit clearer. But, overall, a really great book!

A fun lesson with interesting characters
By Liberty Speidel
In Lily's Passport to Paris, your pre-teen girl will journey to "gay Par-ee" with Lily Robbins. Whether it's putting up with fellow-Americans Dan and Betty Edwards, picking up the "details" of her pilgrimage, or learning about Lily's first crush, Christophe, Lily's Passport to Paris by Nancy Rue is sure to entertain. This is the 14th--and final--book in The Lily Series.

Along with her mom and siblings, Lily goes to Paris for a month where her mom will be helping in a mission for poor kids. She's understandably nervous about leaving Oxford, England, where she and her family have been for a while. She's just begun making friends, and she's afraid her new friends, Kimble and Ingram, will move on in the few weeks she's gone. However, she's willing to see what God has in store for her.

In Paris, Lily meets Christophe, a young orphan, and his older sister, Odette. Christophe is intriguing, but Odette is downright scary. As Lily begins making friends with Christophe, and after he shows her "his Par-ee," he and his sister abruptly leave, leaving Lily bewildered, and her older brother, Art, sure of the fact that young Lily has her first crush.

When Christophe returns in the middle of the night to tell Lily goodbye, she begs him to stay. He tells her he can't--that Odette wants to take them away from the mission so she can get a job to support them, rather than taking the charity of Pastor Renee. Lily, desperate to keep her new friend and share God with him, begs him to meet her in a few hours so she can talk to her mom. An arrangement is made where Christophe takes Lily and their chaperone, Art, out every afternoon.

The arrangement angers Odette, and she physically threatens Lily, then warns her to keep quiet or she'll harm Lily's younger brother and sister. To top it off, Lily's backpack goes missing briefly, which includes her all-important passport. Several days later, Christophe comes and confesses Odette has Lily's passport; he stole it for her.

So much for Lily's mission to show God to Christophe.

Christophe believes his sister has left France--after all, she has Lily's passport, and with a little hair dye, could pass herself off as Lily. But then he decides she may still be in Paris near Notre Dame Cathedral. As Art, Lily, and Christophe head for the Metro to take them to the famed cathedral, Art has a diabetic insulin attack and Christophe has a severe asthma attack, leaving Lily to try to save the day. After she calls her mom and Pastor Renee for help, Lily spots another redhead--something rare in Paris. She realizes it's Odette, and goes up to the woman and tells her Christophe is looking for her and that he's in trouble with his asthma. Odette doesn't seem to want to believe her, but eventually does.

After a scary night with Christophe in the hospital, Lily is finally able to see her new friend again. Pastor Renee agrees that he and his wife will take in Christophe, and Odette will go to a "special home" for young women like herself, at least for a while. And Lily's dad arrives with a surprise for her: Reni, a friend from back in New Jersey.

And while Lily will miss her friends in both Paris and Oxford, she's looking forward to returning home... and seeing what God has in store for her.

What I Like: Sometimes in books for this age, having God present throughout the day can come off as forced. But it doesn't with this book. Lily's relationship with God seemed very real, as were her quests to find the details of Him everywhere, everyday.

The story is very engaging, and I really like how Paris and a couple of other places in France are almost characters in the book. Whether it was Lily trying to decipher how to say French words, or the details in the famed Granier Opera House, Ms. Rue really helped the reader feel like she was right there with Lily.

What I Dislike: This is a real nit-picky thing on my part, but as an adult, it seemed at the end that Odette was probably prostituting herself. Ms. Rue knows her audience, so she didn't get into the details of it very heavily. Clues that lead me to believe this are things such as: Odette being tattooed in a manner that made Pastor Renee nervous, wearing killer heels, how she dressed, strutting around the Metro... all kind of put together a picture of a girl around 20 prostituting herself. I would have liked a note at the end for parents, so if there were questions from a child about Odette's behavior, it could be explained in an age-appropriate manner.

Overall Rating: Excellent

In God Up Close, youth workers and students will experience twelve unexpected meetings people had with God in the Bible. The student guide presents the stories of Jacob, Abraham, Daniel, Ezekiel, Saul, Peter, Mary, and more, through dramatic retellings of some of their significant face-to-face moments with God. Teens will be challenged to explore the deeper meaning of these encounters and how they relate to their own lives. The leader’s guide offers lessons, worship services, scripts, and other ideas to help teens see these servants of God not as characters in a story, but as living, breathing examples of what happens when you come face-to-face with your creator. As youth leaders walk teens through these stories, they’ll discover Chay Elohim—God in the extreme.

Not Tailored Well For Youth
By km1372
I used this curriculum with my middle school group last year, with heavy modifications. My leadership team quickly discovered that we needed to pair activities with the suggested lesson, and pare down the question list to a third of the suggested topics. In addition, the Scripture did not always pair well with the accompanying lesson, to the point where we often scrapped the suggested questions altogether. Not bad as a starting place, but this is not a ready-to-use curriculum.

very cool concept
By Abe Rosa
I enjoyed the son of Samson and the Judge of God. This is an easy read and also is a very entertaining book. The art and graphics in this book are amazingly good. While the bible does not talk of Samson having a child born with his strength. It is a very cool and interesting concept. The idea of what it would be like if that would have happened is what drew me to the book. The art also helped to catch my attention. Mainly it was the idea If Samson had a son what would he be like.

How to Preach and Teach the Old Testament for All Its Worth, by Christopher J. H. Wright

Many preachers ignore preaching from the Old Testament because they feel it is outdated in light of the New Testament and difficult to expound. On the other hand, some preachers will preach from the Old Testament frequently but fail to handle it correctly, turning it into moralistic rules or symbolic lessons for our spiritual life. In How to Preach and Teach the Old Testament for All Its Worth, Christopher J. H. Wright proclaims that preachers must not ignore the Old Testament. It is the Word of God! The Old Testament lays the foundation for our faith and it was the Bible that Jesus read and used.

Looking first at why we should preach from the Old Testament, the author moves on to show the reader how they can be preach from it. Covering the History, Law, Prophets, Psalms, and Wisdom Literature, interspersed with practical checklists, exercises, and sermons, he provides an essential guide on how to handle the Old Testament responsibly.

Preaching and Teaching Out of Love for the Word
By Dr Conrade Yap
Christians who believe in the authority of the Bible will have no problem about the importance of the Old Testament. However, when it comes to communicating the truths and the nuances of the biblical texts for the general audience, it becomes more challenging because of the ancient contexts, the archaic languages used, and how it is relevant for contemporary cultures. Author Christopher Wright has seen it all. He knows how infrequent preachers use the Old Testament for their Sunday sermons. Even those who teach prefer to use the New Testament as it involves less work for the teacher and less intense for the students. Yet, the difficulty should not be the reason for not studying the Old Testament. Despite the title of the book, there is a progression of why first before the how. This is important.

Part One of the book is about the WHY we need to preach and teach the Old Testament. Part Two reveals the HOW.

In Part One, Wright gives us three reasons why we need to preach and teach the Old Testament.
It is God's Word
The Old Testament is foundational to our Christian faith
It is the Bible of Jesus Christ
He shows us the big biblical story, the journey of Israel, and the promise of God revealed throughout the generations through His servants. This journey is important so that students will not get lost in the maze of narratives, poetry, and prophecies. The Old Testament is more about promises rather than predictions. The drama is depicted in six stages: 1) Creation; 2) Fall; 3) Promise; 4) Gospel; 5) Mission; and 6) New Creation. Seen in this light, we can better situate the Old Testament within the fuller context of the whole Bible. In fact, there are lots of references back and forth between the Old and the New testaments. Wright also deals with the person of Jesus Christ, aware that many believers will be quite uncomfortable if Jesus was not mentioned when teaching the Old Testament. Here, I feel that Wright does a good job in connecting the two. On the one hand, we need to teach and preach the Old Testament texts in a way that honours the original meaning, the ancient people's understanding, and God's intent for the people at that time. On the other hand, we cannot separate the centrality of Jesus in the Bible. In "Don't Just Give Me Jesus," Wright says that while the Old Testament points to Jesus, the Old Testament is not "all about Jesus." The main concern is exegesis and original meanings. If we make the premature insertion of Jesus into every Old Testament text, we are in danger of making the Bible say things beyond what the Bible is truly saying. When that happens, people will be doing eisegesis (reading meaning into the text) rather than exegesis (reading meaning out of the text). Thankfully, Wright shows us the way to connect with Christ even as we study the Old Testament for all its worth.

Part Two of the book deals with the actual title proper. After explaining the importance of teaching and preaching from the Old Testament, we are now ready to enter into the nitty-gritty of actually teaching and preaching it. There are lots of wonderful techniques and methodologies here which really brings out the excitement of a teacher and preacher. We connect the story of God and our own stories with a single big story. This is also known as the bible meta-narrative, the story above all other stories. When we do that, we locate our own stories within the context of the Bible. From here, we learn to ask about what kind of world we live in; what it means to be human; what's wrong with the world; what's the solution; and what hope looks like. We learn about zooming into the biblical narratives and then zooming out to see the meta-narrative. Through these stories, we discover our identities. We hold our communities together with a common story. We pass down moral values and hope. We challenge the worldly views with the biblical worldview. We learn to use the five questions of when, what, who, why, and so-what. Other powerful ways include:
- Seven dangers to avoid
- Checklist to make sure we preach the Old Testament on the foundation of God's grace
- How the Laws show the holiness as well as the mercy of God
- The scale of values from the OT laws
- Teaching from the Prophets on the basis of Mouth; Ears; Eyes; Head; Heart; and Hands
- Spot the methods used by the prophets
- How to Outline a sermon
- Learning the features of OT Poetry (Parallelism; Contrasts; Supplementing; Lament; Praise; Thanksgiving; Cursing; and so on)
- Distinguishing the Wisdom literature and the Prophets

So What?
========
Let me share three thoughts about this book.

First, it is a good book to kickstart any attempt to share from the Old Testament, whether for teaching or for preaching. Sometimes, we fail to understand the meta-narrative before embarking on the OT book. When that happens, we are tempted to cut down a OT book on the basis of personal familiarity of selected verses rather than the actual content. When choice verses take precedence over the actual flow of the Bible, not only will the teachers and preachers not learn anything new, the audience will be deprived of potentially important lessons the Holy Spirit wants to teach. With this book, just understanding the meta-narrative will dispel any sense of fear that we exclude the New Testament teachings. Far from that. With this awareness of the big biblical story, we can remind our hearers that when we preach from the OT, we are essentially expounding on the promise of God that was helpful to the hearers of old and also relevant to our people in present times.

Second, I really appreciate Wright for putting together the roles of teaching AND preaching. Personally, I believe that the two are not separate. They are essentially two sides of the same coin. A good preacher must also be ready to teach and to learn. A good teacher must learn to communicate effectively to a wide range of believers. Teachings can go from elementary to advanced. Preaching needs to be directed toward the average age of any audience. While both are different, they both carry lots of common features. From experience, I have learned that the best teachers have a pastoral heart and preaching experience. In the same way, the best preachers are also good teachers. Both are important and both skills are essential for any work with the Word of God.

Third, I want to emphasize the importance of the heart of the teacher/preacher. This If knowing the WHY and the WHAT are steps 1 and 2, then having the heart of love for the Word is Step 0. If one knows the WHY, they will be motivated to look for the WHAT and the HOW-TO in doing anything. However, without the LOVE, the WHY will eventually fizzle out. The WHAT will then fall aside. Anyone desiring to teach or to preach from the Old Testament must cultivate the love for the Word because they love God and they recognize that God loves them. Many hearers have that sense of discernment. They can hear the content being preached or taught. They may appreciate the lessons and stories shared. More importantly, they can discern whether the person doing the teaching or preaching is a genuine believer and lover of the Word or not. Such attitudes are not taught but caught. For that to happen, the Holy Spirit is the ultimate Teacher and Preacher.

Rating: 5 stars of 5.

Is the Old Testament Not Being Preached?
By MasterAP
This made for a decent introduction for preachers/teachers.

Christopher Wright does a good job explaining why we need to include the Old Testament writings during sermons and teachings. But I didn't find it to be anything more exciting than that.

Don't get me wrong, this is a good book. It is well written and very persuasive. My issue is that I've already been surrounded by sermons and teachings that actually do include and some even primarily from the Old Testament.

I must be living in a bubble where the entire Bible is used to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus. Are there truly that many churches and preachers who completely ignore the Old Testament every year that Wright felt this book was warranted? Forgive me, but that's not the case for me.

This would make a great book for someone studying to become a preacher or for someone looking for the basic connections between the Old and New Testaments.

It does a good job in connecting the Whats with the Hows. In other words, Wright is such a good writer that he gives pointers in connecting what you learn from the Old Testament, connecting it to Jesus, and then applying it to your life.

Mandatory Reading for Every Christian College Student
By Rev. Floyd Cryer
I found this book very refreshing and enlightening. As a Rev. and Evangelist Christopher gave me a whole new view on the Old Testament that to heart as well as take to the Pulpit to engage the congregation so that they will be thinking about it until next Sunday when I step up to the Pulpit again.

I believe that this book should be mandatory reading for every Christian College Student seeking a higher education...

Just Sayin' and Dare U 2 Open This Book by Carol McAdams Moore
By T R D
Just Sayin' and Dare U 2 Open This Book are two new devotionals by Carol McAdams Moore for tweens/teens. Because these devotionals follow a very similar format, I will review these together, but will highlight the differences between the two books.

Let's start by looking at the basic framework of both Just Sayin' and Dare U 2 Open This Book. Each book has 90 devotions with large, easy to read text. Each devotion is numbered and starts with the words "Seriously? Let Me See That!" followed by a Bible quote. (Most quotes are from the NIV, some are from the NLT.) Some of the verses are followed by encouragement to read more (with reference to a particular Scripture location), and I really appreciate this.

The remainder of the 2 page spread for each devotion is a variety of activities: prompts, fill-in-the-blank, doodle areas, etc. There are also some short prayers included on some of the devotionals (not all). The prompts are varied and are not overwhelming (the spaces for doodles are not huge), so this seems very approachable for kids. The prompts are often reflective ("Think of a time when...", "Ever do ____?", "What do you do when...?", etc.). Some of the prompts seem to be a bit lacking and could have definitely benefited from a more "full" explanation, but in general they are self-explanatory.

These books are meant to be written and doodled in. Some of the prompts (particularly in Just Sayin') call for the use of glue, but these are just normal book pages and I don't feel they would hold up well with liquid glues. I would recommend dry adhesives such as tape and/or stickers.

Each of the devotional page spreads in Just Sayin' and Dare U 2 Open This Book are laid out differently, all in an appealing "doodle" style. The pages are greyscale (no color), but are still visually interesting.

I love the idea of these devotionals - study & worship combined with art. With the rising popularity of Bible journaling, I think these books are a great jumpstart for young ones.

Even though these books are very similar, there are some differences between the two, so let's look at Just Sayin' and Dare U 2 Open This Book individually now:

From the pink cover to the fluffy dog, you can judge this book by the cover - Just Sayin' is definitely aimed at a female audience.

One thing I noticed right off the bat about Just Sayin' is that the verses are often left at just that - verses. Where in other devotionals you would most likely find an explanation of the verses or at least a few thoughts about them, Just Sayin' generally doesn't have that. (This is something my 11 year old daughter noticed right away, too. We both would like to see more.) There are some specific times when an explanation and/or context would be very helpful, and I think the lack thereof really hurts the fantastic possibility of this book. For example: Devotional #4 references Zechariah 13:9, which feels very out of context. The page prompts for this particular devotional (#4) focus on gold, silver, and "bling", but a quick look at the verse context seems to show that this verse is talking about a remnant being refined and tested, not just glitz and glamour.

As you will find with many tween books these days, the language in Just Sayin' often falls victim to the dumbed-down approach to vocabulary. Words (if you can call them that) like "vacay", "prob", "fave", peeps", and "fab" make frequent appearances, as do abbreviations like "U R" (rather than "you are") and "R U" (rather than "are you"). I feel like this approach to tween/teen books isn't giving today's youth (or the information in the book) enough credit. I would have much rather seen whole words and quality vocabulary.

Even with those areas where I wish there had been some improvement, I can see this being my daughter's most effective (or at least one of the most effective) and engaging devotionals. (She has already asked me multiple times when I would be done reviewing it so she can get started on it.)

Although Dare U 2 Open This Book seems to be more geared toward a male audience, I can see this being a fantastic devotional for girls as well (it is not overly "male", where I would say Just Sayin' is definitely a "female" book).

I feel like Dare U 2 Open This Book has more explanations for the verses than I found in Just Sayin'. I still would have liked to see a bit more, though.

I felt like Dare U 2 Open This Book fell victim to the same dumbed-down approach as Just Sayin' as far as the vocabulary is concerned. Dare U 2 Open This Book had terms like "deets", "dude", "jot yur thots", "kicker" (for shoe), etc. Again, I feel like this approach to tween/teen books isn't giving today's youth (or the information in the book) enough credit. I would have much rather seen this book written with whole words and quality vocabulary.

All things considered, I am excited for my son to get started on Dare U 2 Open This Book. I think it will be a fantastic way for him to reflect on his own actions and to think about God.

I think both Just Sayin' and Dare U 2 Open This Book would make great gifts. I think they would be particularly great when given as a kit - including the book, some colored pencils, journaling pens, and maybe even some stickers.

Great devo for girls
By M & S Scales
Just Sayin': Write `em, Draw `em, Hide `em in Your Heart is a devotional for girls. My older two daughters (9 and 11) saw an ad about this book in their Club House magazine and not so subtly hinted that they wanted one PLEASE, which I think is awesome because there doesn't really seem to be much for their ages. Also the timing worked out perfectly because they will both need some kind of a new devo soon. So I decided to check it out, before I ok it and pass it along.

Reviewing a devotional is challenging because we want it to keep our kids' hearts soft and open as they grow closer with their best friend Jesus. However, a lot of that depends more on how the devo is used and how serious the girls are about learning more of the Word and listening to their Heavenly Father.

In saying that, I believe Carol McAdams Moore has created a fun, engaging way for girls in these 90 devotions to "Read something awesome about God. Learn something cool about yourself. Then ...Doodle, Write, Paint, Glue, ...Whatever!" I believe the age of the girls interested in a devo book like this will vary greatly --starting with younger ones who may need a little of mom's help to teen girls-- because of the format of this book. Girls can go as deep as they want or are able to at their maturity level. Just Sayin' may appeal to some personalities more than others. However, it has a wide variety of unique activities along with the Scriptures reading to challenge girls and get their mind thinking and faith growing. I think it can be a great tool for most to let them expression their God-given creativity as they draw (love the pun!!) closer to their Creator!

I do pray that as my two girls use this tool (yes, I approved it!), their attitude will continue to reflect this quote from the book: "Sweet! Learning to follow Jesus. Best. Idea. Ever."

I received a free copy of this book from BookLook in exchange for my honest review. I was not required to write a positive review. But I also then also purchased another copy!! :)

My Review:

Our girls these days have a hard time remembering what they are in God's eyes. That is why I'm happy to see devotionals like these. Just Sayin': 90 Ways To Rock Your Faith Devotional, is dedicated to teaching girls that they are not what this "world" says they are. It is a devotional designed to encourage, inspire, and uplift them to be the beautiful creature God sees. But this devo doesnt stop there, it is filled with 90 scripture passages along with activities to draw the heart out of any young girl that feels she is not worthy.

As a parent of a 17 year old daughter, I can see what this world will do to our little girls. And I'm glad that there are devotionals like these on the market used to help our girls find who they are in Christ. This book retails for $8.99 and you can find it at this link

Transformed: A New Way of Being Christian, by Caesar Kalinowski

What if Christianity were less about doing and more about being?

In Transformed, author Caesar Kalinowski shows you that when you became a Christian everything about you changed in an instant. You received a new identity based on who Jesus is, not on who you were. As a believer, you literally become part of God’s family of missionary servants. This is who you are―not what you do.

Drawing on stories from Caesar’s own journey and life in community, Transformed looks realistically at the identity you have been given in Christ and how it reshapes everything about you. Set free from performance-driven spirituality and guilt, you will draw closer to God, allowing him to radically change the well-worn rhythms and patterns of your every day life and transform your relationships from the inside out.

Transformed is for those who yearn for a deeper, more authentic faith, one that empowers you to live out of the truth of who God now says you are.

“Caesar Kalinowski is such a wise teacher. Finally, a book on the Christian experience that actually leads its readers towards a new way of living. Transformed is a book that every skeptic, seeker, and Christian should read.”
―Jen Hatmaker, Author of 7: An Experimental Mutiny Against Excess

"If there was ever a legitimate time to offer a new pathway for being a Christ-follower it is now. Thank you Caesar for blowing the dust off of the relics of religious life and opening up the window to a God-breathed life."

―Hugh Halter, Author of FLESH, The Tangible Kingdom, & Sacrilege

...But sometimes it's hard...
By Neal Reynolds
The above is the title of a subsection in eleven of this book's thirteen chapters, four of which deal with our identity as Christians and seven which deal with the way we live.

The author's thesis is that Christianity is more about being than it is about doing. As Christians we have new identities as part of a family, missionary, servant and disciple. He then goes into seven rhythms which illustrate how we live in our new identity. There are two useful appendices at book's end going deeper and several pages of notes most of which are Bible references.

Basically, this is a motivating book aimed at those who have accepted Christ but have not yet attained the plateau of "being" which he talks about. He uses many experiences that are his own and also ones of people he's ministered to in illustrating what he says about identity and the rhythms of living. He speaks in practical and easily understood terms and always backed by Biblical verses.

The "But sometimes it's hard" subsection in each chapter gets down to the basics and is the most helpful part of each chapter.

Reading this book will help you grow as a Christian and is highly recommended.

No more "doing to be".
By Gino Curcuruto
I'll cut to the chase to save your time - this book is fantastic. You'll love it! Well, I should qualify that first. If you are looking to read about a ton of different things Christians should do to be better Christians, then skip this book. If you are looking to read a deep theological treaty on the Christian life without any actual examples of how that might look in everyday life, then you should skip this book. If you need to be convinced that making disciples in everyday life is only the work of the very special, super-Christians, then you should skip this book.

However, if you, like me, are kind of tired of reading books that load you up with theory or bog you down with "to dos", then you should buy this book immediately. If you long to re-experience the joy of your salvation so you are freed up to show others what the Father is like, then buy this book.

While so many books have been written about how a Christian should live, Kalinowski takes a refreshingly Biblical perspective. He proposes that how a Christian gets to live is a direct result of who they are because of what Christ has done. Maybe you should re-read that sentence to discover the freedom it hold for you.

Kalinowski consistently reminds his reader to replace the "your doing determines your be-ing" lie with the gospel reality that your being (in Christ) determines your doing. We don't have to live as missionaries, we get to!

With story after story, the author transforms this gospel reality of "our being shaping our doing" from theory into vivid, living examples. You'll find yourself so wrapped up in the stories and celebrating what God has done, is doing and promises to do, that you may just start believing that this reality is true for you too.

So read this book to discover, or be reminded again, of the Father's extravagant love for you and his ever-present invitation to enter into his joy right now, right where you are. You will be glad you did!

Practical, inspirational and a fun read!
By Alexander Absalom
Transformed: A New Way of Being Christian paints a wonderfully down-to-earth picture of how to be a disciple whose identity in Christ is solid and secure—thereby freeing us up to serve Him out of grace, not out of guilt.

As the author memorably puts it:
“If God has a refrigerator, your picture is on it!”

The book has two main strands. The first half digs into identity, using the framework of 4 words that reflect the new identity that Jesus gives to His disciples, lived out in the context of a Jesus-centered community.

- Family: A group of people with whom we walk through all of life. The relational glue is that we are children of our heavenly Father (even if some are estranged from Dad right now).
- Missionaries: God is on a rescue mission to restore His family and His creation, and so as His children we get to share in the family business!
- Servants: We follow a servant leader, and in His name serve “anyone God brings into our lives with whatever needs doing, whenever it is needed, and wherever it leads us.”
- Disciples: As apprentices of Jesus, we take responsibility for becoming more like Jesus, and help others do the same.

“If a person lives as a disciple, walking in Jesus’ ways, then they will come to know the truth that sets them free!”

The second half of the book takes us further into practical implications, by sharing 6 daily rhythms of discipleship.

- Story-formed: As we are shaped by God’s story in the Bible, so we will reflect that as we interact with the stories of others. This is a central part of missional community life for Soma Communities.
- Listen: Learning to listen to God’s voice in the Bible and in our life today is a central discipline for a disciple, as that is how we will know what Jesus is saying to us and thus what He would like us to do.
- Eat: By sharing in meals with both believers and unbelievers, we share in community and create a context for the Gospel to be demonstrated and shared.
- Bless: Whether through words, deeds or gifts, we are blessed to be a blessing.
- Celebrate: We should be the people who bring the party in our places of mission – after all, as followers of Jesus, we should be filled with reasons to celebrate and display God’s goodness!
- Re-Create: Taking time to rest, have fun and restore in ways that renew us and those around us.

One of the things that I love about this book is that it is chock full of stories, some of which make you go ‘Wow!’ out loud! This reflects the reality that the content here has been birthed out of the local church, in particular Soma Communities (a church-planting church, in Tacoma WA), with all the ups and downs that entails.

As a community they have worked hard at living out the new identity that Christ gives to us, through everyday rhythms of life. Yet this is not about forming Christian gatherings that are withdrawn from the world. Rather, this book is fully centered on equipping and encouraging people to be out in their neighborhoods and workplaces and places of mission, living out what it means to follow Jesus.

This book is a very practical, inspiring and easy read. It is not a program, but it will stir you to think more afresh about how you can be more intentional about growing as a disciple who is making disicples. You will come away with some fresh ideas and challenge for you and your community to live out.

Footnote: For the sake of transparency, I received a free copy of this book from the publisher, with the invitation to write an honest review. Hopefully that has not effected my review—for many years I’ve known and trusted Caesar and his ministry, and think that he has done a great job of transferring a chunk of that into print. This is a great resource!
