Throughout her career, Karen Poth has held various positions in the Children's Entertainment Industry including Vice President of Design at Big Idea/VeggieTales, Product Developer at Walt Disney World, CCO of SpringSprang Studio, and Kid's Innovation Strategist at Hallmark Cards. She holds a master's degree in Journalism from the University of Missouri. She lives with her husband and seven-year-old son in Lenexa, KS.

Christmas Story with Lesson of Christmas

I was excited to read this book to my little ones the excitement is already building up for Christmas. How could it not- every store not only has Halloween items out but Christmas items out as well. My oldest has even started a bit of a countdown so items like this just intensify the anticipation. Yuletide Ice Cube Fair is a Veggietales book from Zonderkidz and it is written by Karen Poth. The book is labeled for children from 4-8 but if your kids love Veggietales and are a little younger or older it will be fine. The book is a rhyming story which always keeps my kid's attention along with the colorful illustrations. In honor of the rhyming I will tell you about the book in rhymes.
The story starts out with a Christmas from the past
The Yuletide Ice Cube Fair everyone had a blast
Activites galore and fun was had by all
Everyone participated from the old to the small
Queens, food, and finally an ice block
A contest would begin a judge watching the clock
A question is posed What does Christmas mean to you?
You must show with the ice what you feel is true
Lessons are learned by each and every veggie
The story itself isn't preachy or heavy
My boys enjoyed the story and hopefully learned some too
If you like Veggietales your children will enjoy this story new
Maybe this wasn't the best rhyme
but thank you for taking the time

Children love "Veggie Tale" antics and the Yuletide Ice Cube Fair is perfect for youngsters at Christmas because it emphasizes Jesus, the "real" reason for the season!
The narrative begins and ends with brief scriptures from Luke. In Veggie Tale tradition, the story is told with rhyme and begins with the "Yuletide ice Cube Fair." The much anticipated yearly event includes the "Ice Cube Carving" contest where artists are told—
"With block of ice," he said to all, here's what you should do:
Sculpt in seven hours or less what Christmas means to you."
Illustrations of the newly crowned "Ice Cube Queen," decorated Christmas trees, ice skating veggie characters eating sno-cones and slushies, keep the pages turning while–
"The artists started carving and ice shavings filled the air.
Mayor Bob kept track of time to make sure all was fair."
The story ends with a serious Christmas message—
"Christmas isn't all about the big, the bright, the new.
Christmas time means Jesus—and the love He brought for you."
A beautiful Christmas message, simply told, about the greatest event in human history—the birth of Jesus Christ.

Fun at the Ice Cube Fair!

The Yuletide Ice Cube Fair is a very special time of year. The excitement mounts as everyone prepared for the fun and enjoyment of the day. Come, enjoy this new VeggieTale celebration.
Winter brings many things and the Ice Cube Fair is one of them. The towns' folk gather together to enjoy food and games, celebrating the season. They skate, have a burlap sack race, enjoy delicious drinks, and even choose a queen. But the highlight is the ice sculpting contest. Everyone who wants to can take a block of ice and sculpt what Christmas means to them. They have seven hours to do their work. Who will have the winning sculpture?
What a cute book! This is a book that will appeal to parents of preschoolers because of the wonderful pictures and easy to understand words. The poetry is fun to read and the lesson is priceless. If you have young children, this is a great book for your library. That also applies to grandparents and other relatives, as well as young children's ministries and nursery work. I received my review copy from the Book Look program in exchange for an honest review.
