Annie F. Downs is an author and speaker based in Nashville, Tennessee. Flawed but funny, she uses her writing to highlight the everyday goodness of a real and present God. Annie is the author of two books for teens: Perfectly Unique, a spiritual growth book for high school and college girls, and Speak Love, a challenge to women on how to use their words to make a difference in the world. By weaving together personal stories, humor, and Scripture, she invites the young women reading to experience fulfilled lives with a God who made them on purpose and loves them deeply.
When she's not working on books, Annie spends her days writing all over the internet- blogging at AnnieBlogs.com and (in)courage.me - sharing truths about her life in Nashville as a single Christian woman and the stories that are woven into each day. A Great gift for a teen girl in your life

Annie Downs is an author and speaker out in Tennessee. When she’s not working on books, Annie spends her days writing all over the internet- blogging at AnnieBlogs.com and (in)courage- sharing biblical truth about her life as a single Christian woman and the stories that are woven into each day. Annie is the author of two books, both of which are for teens: Perfectly Unique, a spiritual growth book for high school and college girls, and her newest book; Speak Love, a challenge to young girls on how to use their words to make a difference in the world.
The speak love devotional can be used as a companion to the book. It's 30 entries long and it includes lined pages for journaling. Right off the bat, AMAZON has mis-listed this book as "leather bound." AMAZON does this with a lot of Zondervan's books. The cover is actually what the publisher calls Italian Duo-Tone.™ Which is really a "leather-feel" material that is actually a composite of rubber and paper. A true leather bound journal would cost at least $10 more.
Each journal entry has a verse, an application and some truth to speak from the verse and then a short prayer and then what Annie calls a "revolt." The revolts are action steps that the reader can take like "posting a thought to facebook." Each journal entry is about a page and is a quick read.
That said the remaining 126 pages (the book is 208 pages) of the journal is blank lines with scattered inspirational verses for "journaling." It's almost like a spiritual diary. So I would suggest buying the book and journal together and then reading them with each other. This way the teen could process her thoughts AS she's reading and then to use the remaining blank pages as she continues to process the book.
This would make a great gift for that teen girl in your life - it's certainly a message that needs to be said.

Excellent and thought-provoking

Excellent devotional to really get you thinking about the power of your words. It is geared toward teens, so there are phrases like "ask your parents, a teacher, or trusted adult". I am 26 and still loved the book. The message is applicable to any age, but I can see how it would be especially valuable for teenagers. I highly recommend this!

Great for teen girls

I used the 30 day devotional and journal along with the Speak Love book. I think that Annie's message is so important that I started a teen book study. We meet once a week and read a chapter together, then the girls use the journal to write down their thoughts and use the devotionals to start the day out.
