With 15 years of youth ministry experience, Laurie Polich serves as pastor of small groups and discipleship at Ocean Hills Covenant Church, in Santa Barbara. She¹s the author of several books including Help! I'm a Small-Group Leader training curriculum and book, Studies on the Go: John, and Small Group Qs, and she speaks frequently to students and youth workers across the country.

Great Guide for a Non-Experienced Youth Instructor

This is an excellent supplemental tool for teaching youth or small groups of any age as the material and questions are great for everyone. I also have the Studies on the Go - Romans and I think the book of John edition is much better.
The questions are great to get the class thinking on their own and to start discussions to see what other people believe and how they interpret some of the verses.
Another thing I like is the fact that many of the sessions include plenty of actual Bible reading! This is something I think is missing in a lot of classes these days. I feel several teachers only read 2-5 verses from the Bible in their lesson plans but this book offers full Bible stories that often entails 20-40 verses! This helps the students to get used to reading more of the Bible so they can understand and appreciate what the Bible really has to offer.
Each session takes about 30 minutes but with more engaging conversations it can last up to 45 minutes or an hour. Great for Wednesday nights or specialized small group meetings.

Easy and Insightful Curriculum

I used this curriculum with my junior high and senior high Sunday School class and loved it. Polich did a wonderful job capturing the message and theology of the Gospel of John, and I found many of her questions to be insightful and challenging. I appreciated the how thorough the curriculum was, giving a short introduction to each lesson, including warm up questions, context and application questions and an optional activity to bring home the point of each lesson. I also loved that this curriculum was ready to go - very little editing was needed before giving using the material and I could prep each lesson in 10 minutes or under (a lifesaver for a busy youth worker or volunteer!). I would definitely use this again.

Heady resource, but good

We are using this as our guideline with youth group this year. It is a good study through John. At times, the discussion of things like orchestras don't exactly fit our rather rough and tumble youth group, so we supplement with other materials. But, overall it is a great guide through a life changing book in the Bible.
