'Hand of the Morningstar: 'Advent' and 'Resurrection' are good. Very good in fact....Zondervan hasn't skimped on the details....I was pleasantly taken aback as I read through these 2 volumes, in one sitting no less, at how much took me by genuine surprise. I've been reading superheroes from The Big Two for 15 years and am accustomed to deaths, betrayals, and resurrections on a monthly basis, but [writers] Mike Miller and Brett Burner wisely let the reader in on a few secrets at a time. It is a page turner and it's obvious that this series has a few more aces up its sleeve yet....Miller's black and white art is straight forward, but far from bland. He knows what he's doing....There's plenty of action in the story for him to litter each book with power packed fight scenes and buckets of energetic splash pages. The expressions are spot-on, and sometimes the reactions are downright funny. This helps to compliment the script perfectly....There is a great sequence in which Tempest [one of the main characters] is reading the Bible as the words come alive. Jesus has never looked so heroic! To some, this may come across as not too subtle but it contains the gospel message beautifully and I actually found the choice of verses quite moving. There's something in these digests for comics fans, Christians, and those that are both or neither....[T]hese two volumes honestly did captivate me.' (Infuzemag.com)

Good for Teens

My son liked this series a lot. Basically we have super power heroes who have faith in God. From a story point of view it is very well done and it's actually really good. I got my son only the first 3 volumes (big mistake) he finished them all in one day and was like "Where is the rest?". I had to quickly order the rest of the series.
This is very good quality Christian fiction for a teenager or above age.

Summary: When super-powered eco-terrorist Tempest attacks an oil rig, the equally powered Hand of the Morningstar team fly in to save lives and put a stop to Tempest's mayhem. As the world praises the team, the superheroes redirect the world's attention to their mysterious and supernatural leader, the Morning Star, the person with a plan to save the world.
Review: I'm just going to spoil the review up front and say that I absolutely love this series! The series is an eight volume story that is highly character driven, filled with awesome super-powered fights, and a theological subtext that brought me to tears a number of times.
The book was originally written by Brett Burner and Mike Miller, with the art being drawn by Mike Miller as well. As the series progressed, Miller dropped off and newcomer Eric Ninaltowski took over the art and Ben Avery also joined the writing team. Usually a change in the creative team (although Burner stayed on the series throughout) is never a good sign, but all eight of the titles were written and drawn well.
The graphic novel series bogged down a little during volumes four and five, but that's really my only complaint.
Hand of the Morningstar is a complex super-hero story. The heroes aren't all heroes. Some of the bad guys use language and phrases like a church-going person might use . . . and that's terrifying. We're exposed to a wonderful love story, and exploration on truth and deception, redemption, damnation and the ultimate source of power. Fans of comics, superheroes, complex characters and action absolutely need to check out these books.
The books are appropriate for junior high levels and up.

Need more Graphic Novels like these.

I personally just finished reading the New Two Part Edition of the The Hand of the Morningstar. All 8 Chapters are in a very nice 2 Graphic Novel Set. Simply loved the story line!!! I am a huge fan of the book of Revelations and let me just say they this one takes you on a very nice ride. Story is great. Characters are very vivid and the conclusion is powerful!!! Great work.
